Our Practice
We are a practice based in Knocknacarra which provides for private patients, medical card holders and those with doctor visit cards. We are also happy to see patients who are in Galway temporarily.
Visitors from the EU with valid European Health Insurance Cards are also welcome. Students are also welcome.
The practice was created by Dr Declan Larkin in 1989 when Dr Larkin moved back to Galway after living and working in Rockford, Illinois, USA. Dr Larkin worked full time for 20 years until Dr Stewart joined him on a part time basis. Dr Persad then joined the surgery in January 2016.
Our staff are highly qualified and we offer a wide range of services which are detailed in our services section. We take tremendous pride in the level of our care and all medical staff are compliant with mandatory Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
This is a training practice affiliated to the National University of Ireland, Galway. We are an approved surgery for the Garda Siochana Doctor of Choice scheme. Both Dr Larkin and Dr Persad are registered with the national Cervical Screeing Programme.
Consultations
Appointments last 15 minutes so if you feel you would need more time than this, please let us know. If you need to be seen as an emergency, please contact the surgery and we will endeavour to facilitate you. We can do early morning appointments by request on Thursdays and Fridays.
If you are booking for a special procedure, more time is required so let us know.

A member of the administrative staff is present from 9am to 1pm and 2:15pm to 5pm so that prescriptions, letters, etc can be collected at a convenient time. Please give 48 hours notice before repeat prescriptions can be collected.
Out of Hours Medical Care
After 6pm until 9am on Monday to Thursday Out of Hours Care is provided by a rota of other GPs in the area. Phone the usual surgery number of 091 590 055 where a clear message will provide you with the details of the Doctor on Duty.
After 6pm on Friday until 8am on Monday, Out of Hours care is provided by Citydoc (www.galwaycitygprota.com). Phone 091-758008 from 9am-5pm Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays. Outside of these hours please phone 087-7744430.
